Presented with over three hundred years of New England history upon which to build, some clients might prioritize preserving structural aspects when envisioning their future home. Others may choose modernizing their space so as to ensure a certain consciousness for the future. In collaboration with Gale Goff Architect, our firm was able to offer an award winning solution to both requests.

The end result? A home that rejects compartmentalization, celebrating the duality of old and new, traditional and innovative.

While this Cape house’s Colonial-era post and beam framework was the basis for design, coordination, re-envisioning, and a tremendous amount of labor was required to intermingle “smart house” technology with original elements that the owners had fallen in love with. A full solar energy system provides 100% of the house’s energy, and a succulent green roof adds heat retention in the winter months and cooling capabilities in the summer, limiting the home’s overall ecological footprint.
